Spring 2008: I particularly like to get pictures of birds singing.

Our interest in bluebirds extends beyond Boulder County. We found several on a hike at Rocky Mt. National Park, June 27, where they nest in cavities made by woodpeckers; there are no nest boxes. We also had a charming little Green-tailed Towhee hop on our picnic table and spend quite awhile searching for goodies on the ground nearby.

In the 2007 collection, we have to feature a Boulder County rare bird, an adult male Scarlet Tanager. In late June and early July, it was conspicuous in Gregory Canyon, singing and chasing away male Western Tanagers. Another featured bird is a Red-tailed Hawk photographed along 75th St about 1/4 mile south of Nelson Rd on Dec 20. The hawk is banded, and at least two numbers on the band are readable in the photo. We have now participated in the BCNA wintering raptor surveys for six seasons.

Pictures in the collection below were taken on a variety of hikes in the area. I started trying to capture birds singing in 2006.

Four particularly interesting 2007 yard birds are in the group below. There's a whole page of yard birds also.
